The day spelled uncertainty as six foot, 170 pound, 25 year old Jason Hall gets to the bus depot to pick up his normal shuttle. The morning air causes the hair on his arms to send shivers throughout his whole body; his dark gray uniform also quivers with the breeze. “How is my baby doin’?” Jason exclaims while running his hand along the side of his newly washed bus. The day starts off mostly the same, the only exception is that there is a slight change in the route. This doesn't concern Jason, because on the bright side he no longer goes to the bus stop Elizabeth is always stationed at. However, this still burdens Jason at the same time. He opens his side window in hopes the cool air will clear his head.
Meanwhile...Elizabeth shuffles her feet, and counts the digits on her watch. The bus had been coming at a later time than usual, but on a brighter note Jason was no longer driving her route. The less she saw of him the better it was, at least that’s what she thought. This morning was colder than most and the breezes seemed to be having a ‘who can blow the hardest’ contest as well. Her short sandy brown hair flowed fluently in the cold wind as did her purple and white dress. The shuttle finally arrived. The new bus driver was a pleasant elderly gentleman, much preferred over the cold and sarcastic Jason in Elizabeth’s opinion. “Top of the mornin’ miss. You look mighty pretty in that dress. Special occasion?” The bus driver asked. Laughing, Elizabeth replied. “No, I just felt like dressing up today. I don’t know why. And thank you for the compliment.” “It’s my pleasure madam.” He replied pleasantly.
It’s amazing how a day starting off so cold, can end with it being in the high 80’s. Sweat dripped from Hall’s face in the tons as the AC seemingly did nothing for him, but plenty for the passengers. The heat reminds him of the kiss, of Elizabeth's lips. He never thought he could actually love someone before.
Elizabeth uses a folder from her work bag to fan herself furiously, but it does nothing to protect her from the heat. “I swear this heat is gonna be the death of me.” She mumbles to herself. The breezes have seemingly stopped their fun and games, and whenever they do occur it only adds to the heat. Hot air was all she was receiving, even from her second hand fan. She looks off into the distance to see a blurry white and red object she hopes is the bus. The heat waves serve to only worsen her vision. Once again, she finds herself losing her mind to the cruel characteristics of memory as she slowly starts to see the school, then Jason Jason, and feel the kiss. The loud screeching of the bus’ breaks cause Elizabeth to snap back to the real world. Her eyes open upon the cold air brushing her face. Relief flooded her body but doubt seeps back in as she sees Jason in the driver seat instead of the old man this time. Jason too holds a similar look of disbelief once he realizes that Elizabeth is on his route going back. They both make efforts to avoid each other’s gazes as Elizabeth enters the shuttle prudently and inserts her change into the machine. Suddenly before Elizabeth can make her way to the back of the bus, Jason’s hand anchors her. “Wait,” Jason begins. “I think we need to talk.” “Well this place isn't a very reasonable place to talk Jason!” She comes back with a snap. “No, not here.” He replied impatiently. “Somewhere else. Tomorrow why don’t you stay on the bus till I go back to the depot...we can talk there and I’ll drive you home.” Elizabeth ponders a moment. She doesn't like the idea or the feeling of being with him, but she agrees.
The following day Jason and Elizabeth get off the 420 bus he drives at the depot. Jason is wearing his normal uniform and Elizabeth is sporting a blue tank top, with black skinny jeans, and white Nike shoes. “Well, we’re here. What do you want to “discuss?”” She says. Words rush out in the form of feelings as Jason spills. “Look Elizabeth, I know it was a long time ago but I’m sorry for what I did. I should’ve never kissed you on that day nor tried a second time and I regret getting you in trouble with my ex. She was a harpy anyway. The thing is, I actually liked you and I don’t know why, but I think I still do. I know it’s been so many years but…” He can’t finish. Elizabeth starts off cold. “Jason, I don’t know if I hate you or pity you. And I can’t believe that once upon a time I actually liked you. You were just like every other jock. You were a jerk to me and crushed me after your girlfriend found out, and for the rest of my high school years I was tormented because of it. You never stood up for me or anything….” She can’t finish her sentence either. Jason’s eyes fall to the floor while Elizabeth’s  watery ones can’t decide what to focus on. The silence is murderous. Every second cuts deeper into the scars both have tried so long and hard to cover up. Jason slowly walks up to Elizabeth. His arms couple around her waist. Elizabeth goes to push them away, but upon her hands making contact with his forearms; they no longer possess the ability to push. No thought goes into the action as their lips lock in an embrace that both have wanted to relive for seven years. The sensation is senseless and illogical as it grows harder and harder for either to stop. All that exist is this moment, her person, and his person. Everything is an empty dark void. The only thing there to keep them both warm are their bodies pressed together. Chest to breast, stomach to stomach, thighs to thighs...heart to heart. Years of hard feelings are suddenly broken into pieces and scattered across the endless realm never to be seen again. Her satin velvet lips pressed against his gentle pink ones proved to be the only cure. Suddenly the empty void is a parking lot full of buses and the nighttime sky illuminates Jason and Elizabeth. The 420 and rest of the natural world is tangible again as the kiss comes to a halt. Neither say a word because neither can. Language never existed only love has. They kiss again once again letting the magic ripple their rib cages and set their heart ablaze. “Our. First. Kiss.” Jason manages to say in between kisses.  “What do you mean?” She replies inquisitively. “As a couple.” He finishes while tangling his fingers between hers. The world explodes into one billion spontaneous objects as they both land their lips on each other’s. Everything else...is unexplainable.
Seven Years Later...
